Pitch-perfect Peruvian cooking from one of Lima’s greats

Rafael Osterling may have exported his Rafael restaurant brand across Latin America but standards have certainly not slipped at his Lima original. Among the best known chefs in the region, Osterling has made a name for himself with authentic (save a few Mediterranean influences) but relatively haute takes on Peruvian dishes. Found within a stunning bright red town house in the chic Miraflores area, the dining room at Rafael is relaxed with an Art Deco feel and holds Osterling’s impressive collection of modern art.

On the menu Peruvian must-haves such as cebiche and empanadas jostle with more original fare, including a hearty stew of grouper cheeks with clams, squid and confit potatoes. If more evidence of his culinary prowess was needed, Osterling recently became the first Peruvian to receive a Gourmand World Cookbook Award for his book Rafael, El Chef.
