The Araki

Hong Kong, China

Located in the old marine police headquarters building, The Araki is led by eponymous chef Mitsuhiro Araki, who also ran a hugely acclaimed version of his restaurant in London for a decade. Serving traditional Edomae sushi, Chef Araki uses fresh locally-caught seafood as well as jet-fresh fish from Japan itself. With 12 seats situated around a 200-year-old cypress counter, The Araki only serves a 20-course omakase menu with local flair, incorporating premium Cantonese ingredients such as bird’s nest, fish maw and abalone. Most notable is its congee – a Cantonese style savoury rice porridge – made with sushi rice.
