Bordeaux, France

Garopapilles, which loosely translates as ‘taste buds, get ready!’, combines the roles of corner wine shop and a Michelin-star restaurant with aplomb. The streamlined, 20-cover dining room is bolstered during the summer months by a handful of tables arranged in the fragrant, herb-filled courtyard. Chef Tanguy Laviale, a graduate of Paris’ Ferrandi school, shops daily at the market, incorporating the best of Bordeaux produce in a surprise menu featuring accomplished dishes such as pigeon with porcini mushrooms and cockles. With more than 500 bins in the cellar, finding the perfect wine (or craft beer) pairing only adds to the pleasure.
