Beirut, Lebanon

Almayass has been serving up Armenian-Lebanese fusion food in Achrafieh since 1996, when founder Chant Alexanderian did the cooking himself, with the help of his son. The cosy, unassuming space consists of two dining rooms, one with a bar, and an upper level, all decked out in burgundy hues. Hummus with sujuk comes topped with cubes of fried Armenian sausage, kebabs come with a sweet and sour cherry sauce and there are plenty of good Armenian pours. Almayass now has outposts around the Arab world and in the US.
