In the heart of the city centre, Woda Ognista (the name translates from Polish as 'fire water') is a high-end cocktail bar with drinks and design meant to hark back to Warsaw's past. Housed in a building that's more than a century old, the goal for the interiors was to capture the beautiful spirit of Warsaw's pre-WWII bars. Design details like vintage shakers (presented in glowing display cases like art) and framed photos from 1920s and '30s help drive the retro point home. Illustrated cocktail menus – which feature vintage, contemporary and overlooked world classics alongside some Polish recipes that are unlikely to be found elsewhere – rotate with the seasons and often feature regional fruits and vegetables. Polish snacks are available, too. Reservations recommended on weekends.
