New York, US
From the pioneering Dead Rabbit duo – Sean Muldoon and Jack McGarry – comes the meticulously researched BlackTail, an homage to the eponymous planes that transported New York socialites to the bars of Havana during Prohibition. Witness a reproduction of the painter John Vanderlyn’s ‘Landing of Columbus’; a statue of Cuban hero José Martí; replica barstools of those in Ernest Hemingway’s local, El Floridita. There’s a live band, staff wear guayaberas and the rum flows freely, while classic cocktails are updated with ingredients such as goji berries and tonka beans. Cuban-inspired snacks are worth exploring, particularly the sweet plantains.
