Charmgang

Bangkok, Thailand

Opened in Bangkok’s vibrant Yaowarat neighbourhood in 2019 by an ambitious team of young chefs – Geravich “Mew’’ Mesaengnilverakul, Aruss “Jai” Lerlerstkull and Atcharaporn “Aew” Kiatthanawat – all of whom have worked with renowned chef David Thompson at Nahm, the neon-lit Charmgang has the kind of buzz about it that’s impossible to manufacture. Behind an unassuming shop front, the retro curry house’s interior has been finessed by visual designer Sarah Yen Panya, its red reed mats and profusion of contemporary art forming an eclectic backdrop for Charmgang’s unique brand of fun and comforting Thai soul food. Think barbeque smoked pork with mango salad and seared scallop on crispy coconut milk cupcake. The curries are what people come for though - bursting with nuanced flavour, they succeed in preserving a rich culinary heritage while adding enough bold, new notes to keep the crowd coming back for more.
