Farm Africa

OFFICAL CHARITY PARTNER OF THE WORLD'S 50 BEST RESTAURANTS 2016

Food is something to be celebrated. It is essential for life and brings people together wherever they are in the world, breaking down barriers and developing relationships. Yet too many farmers in rural Africa face failed harvests year after year, and are struggling to get by. This is why our colleagues in the food community have come together, so we can help farming families to grow a brighter future.

Farm Africa is a different kind of charity, working to bring prosperity in rural Africa. It does this by working shoulder-to-shoulder with farmers and communities. The charity provides them with the right seeds, tools and technical support, empowering farmers like Emily (above), to grow more, sell more and sell for more – not just this harvest, but every harvest. In essence, Farm Africa promotes farm aid not food aid, bringing lasting change from the ground up.

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants is proud to pledge its support for Farm Africa for another year. Through the charity’s Dine for Good campaign, restaurants can help grow farming in rural Africa by asking diners to add a small donation to Farm Africa onto their bills.

Ashley Palmer-Watts, Group Executive Head Chef at Dinner by Heston Blumenthal said: "I have supported Farm Africa for a number of years and I have seen first-hand how the funds raised have impacted local communities in eastern Africa. Dine for Good is a simple and effective way for the restaurant industry to give back. Join me this year in ending hunger – for good."

We all appreciate how Farm Africa unleashes the potential of farmers to increase their harvests, reduce poverty and become self-sufficient – for good.
