An Athenian bar leading the farm-to-glass movement

Most of Athens' most acclaimed bars can be found a short walk, or stumble, from one another. Line, however, is a little further out, in a converted gallery space in the city's Kato Petralona district, but what's inside is well worth the short taxi ride or stroll to discover.

Created by the team behind fellow Athenian big hitter The Clumsies, Line is an unpretentious destination spot focusing on the art of fermentation in all its forms, and managing to present as a restaurant, winery, brewery, café and cocktail bar all at once.

Food and drink are inextricably linked here, with a menu designed to be imbibed and consumed in perfect harmony, with most of the ingredients used crafted in-house, including fruit wines, beers, vinegars, syrups and breads. As expected in a farm-to-glass, closed loop bar concept, waste is minimal and leftovers are used wherever possible, including in signature drinks like the Leftover Spritz (Line's spirit leftovers, rose, tomato, cardamom, elderflower) and Punch (rum, milk whey, leftover tropical fruit, burnt butter, herbs, spices).

For something different, the bar's branded line of Why-Ins – wine made with very other fruit apart from grapes – are a good place to start, and range from 'classic' with gentle versions like one crafted from orange flower honey from Crete to experimental with glasses made of pomegranate, rose, smoke, tomato and walnut. Post drink, the cheesecake, Basque in nurture and fudgy, creamy and caramelised in nature, is a must order.
