New York
- Three Cents Best New Opening Award 2026
New Entry
If you thought NYC couldn't possibly fit in another achingly cool cocktail bar, you'd be wrong, because here stands Schmuck. Opened in early 2025 by Moe Aljaff and Juliette Larrouy in Manhattan's East Village, Schmuck quickly became one of the most talked-about new bars in NYC. And it's not hard to see why. First there's the deliberately laid-back, house-party-style vibe, which makes every patron feel as though they are hanging out in artists' warehouse home, from the slouchy floor cushions to the grunge-chic crimson walls and eclectic art collection (spot the animal sculptures littered around the space).
Secondly, there's the distinctly divided spaces to sip in: The Living Room with its lounge-style space with couches and a central cocktail bar and The Kitchen Table, a smaller room with a long communal table designed for large groups and loud conversation. But, underpinning it all is a tight drinks programme of clever takes on classic flavours with a distinctly savoury, food-driven point of view. The menu gravitates from the intriguing with the BBL Brie (tequila, lacto beets, berries, walnuts, Brie) to the mind-bending with the Piña Colada Pickleback, which manages to be both nothing like and the essence of a piña colada at the same time, and arrives in two short glasses, one of coconut fat-washed whisky and another of homemade pickled pineapple brine.
