Casa El Enemigo

Maipú, Argentina

If you want a real taste of Argentinian terroir, Casa el Enemigo is the perfect place. Set within the Casa Virgil wine estate, this restaurant not only serves its own bottlings, but dishes made using fresh produce from the kitchen garden as well. The dining room is a sunlit conservatory with brightly-coloured windows sending rainbows skitting across the polished wooden floors and a charming terrace where you can sip a punchy cabernet franc while you survey the vines that produced it. The home-grown ethos imbues the menus with an inbuilt seasonality with dishes changing as ingredients peak, but the cooking is far from rustic with an experimental edge evident in dishes like steak with demiglace, black garlic emulsion, Brussels sprouts, nuts and acetic acid. And it goes without saying: you're going to want to order the wine pairings.
