Osborn House

Bundanoon, Australia

A small-town Aussie bolthole with international appeal. Poised in the Southern Highlands between the wilds of Morton National Park and the charming village of Bundanoon, Osborn House is an idiosyncratic hotel setting the tone for a new wave of Australian hospitality. It’s the kind of special address (an old estate manor dating to 1892) you’d be forgiven for wanting to keep to yourself: a laidback, 22-room haven of modern-rustic refinement with a members' club vibe and nature on the doorstep. The playful design – a cosy, covetable moodboard of mismatched vintage and modern pieces, contrasting textures, bold colourways and bohemian flea-market finds – is the work of Linda Boronkay, former Design Director at Soho House. Rooms, and so too the spa, promise enveloping respite for those returning from the myriad outdoor adventures on offer, and can be found pitched in the main house and across cabins dotting the estate. Seasonal provenance-first fare – the kind of food you really want to eat – is the deal across easy-going George’s and the more formal Dinah’s. Come weekends, conditions permitting, Francis Mallmann-trained chefs fire up an asado par excellence. Just a couple of hours from Sydney, it’s made for modern travellers.
