Set on the banks of Austria's Lake Traunsee, Bootshaus has one of the prettiest views we've come across, either from the dining room or the rustic timber terrace, which is suspended over the open water. This converted boathouse restaurant is a part of Das Traunsee Hotel and promises to offer a gourmet experience without any fuss or fanfare, overseen by acclaimed chef Lukas Nagl. Guests can choose from four, six or seven courses of regional, seasonal produce cooked at the highest level. There's a strong hyper-local focus here. Nagl draws inspiration from the traditional cuisine of Upper Austria, while many ingredients are foraged from the surrounding area. The kitchen serves only freshwater fish, crayfish, mussels and wild game birds sourced from Lake Traunsee – directly in front of the restaurant, and from other nearby lakes across the Salzkammergut region.
