A timeless reflection of nature on the River Mühl. Nestled amid ancient forest, this converted glass-and-steel bolthole (est. 1698) is the stuff of epicurean legend. Spanning back five generations, the idyll (complete with bedrooms) draws pilgrims for its reconstructed incarnations of regional Austrian fare. The convergence of young and old is mirrored in talented father-and-son chef team, Helmut and Philip Rachinger (previously of World’s 50 Best regulars The Clove Club and Steirereck). Wild produce from the Mühlviertel area drives the chefs’ carte blanche and tasting menus: emblematic dishes include Schlägler carp with blackberry beer and gingerbread and venison with morels and nettle.
