Pastorale

Antwerp, Belgium

Art defines both the design and the cuisine at Pastorale – around 10 miles and a €35 taxi ride north of Antwerp. Set in a former presbytery, its garden is home to several outsized contemporary William Sweetlove rabbit sculptures, the restaurant is led by Bart De Pooter, a man known for his close affiliation with top regional suppliers. Inside, in the shadow of artworks by Arne Quinze and Jan Fabre, six indulgent menus include fish extravaganza ‘Aqua’, and ‘Signature’: think eel from the Eastern Scheldt and young partridge. Many wines are available by the glass, with coffee, petit fours and liqueurs rounding things off in classically Belgian style.
