Calling all stargazers and would-be astronauts… Sputnik offers a journey that’s out of this world, drawing on astronomy and space travel for inspiration, as well as the influence of Russia, as the bar’s name alludes to. In this richly patterned yet industrial space, beneath the glow of futuristic merkaba lighting, bartenders look beyond, and to the future, to create some innovative but ultimately fun and accessible drinks that make liberal use of Bulgarian spirit rakia. Take the Plamena, for example, with its grape rakia and mezcal, as well as a grapefruit and cherry tomato cordial. Light dishes to accompany these libations include salads and tapas, and there’s a schedule of events and DJs on the weekends.
