Mission Hill Family Estate
British Columbia, Canada
- No.45 The World's 50 Best Vineyards 2025
Mission Hill's 12‑storey bell tower is a signal of the leafy Okanagan Valley's modern winemaking success, its handmade French bronze bells calling guests half‑hourly to its beautiful grounds on the hills of Mount Boucherie, with vineyards winding down to the lake. Founded in 1981, it has become one of British Columbia's most lauded estates – as much for the elaborate architecture as the wines, with a giant stone archway crafted from a single five‑ton piece of Indiana limestone leading through to idyllic courtyards, gardens, a loggia and an amphitheatre that can host up to 1,200 people for open‑air concerts. Tour the atmospheric barrel cellar, where a single oculus is the only window up to ground level, and explore its array of tastings, including the sommelier‑led 'Behind Closed Doors' experience. The Terrace restaurant utilises locally sourced, seasonal produce – in addition to the grounds' own beehives, orchard and organic herb garden – to create chic yet sustainable dishes, with plenty of pickling, curing and canning for preservation.
