From cocktail catering company to full bricks-and-mortar, Matt Boyle and Jeffrey Van Horne of The Clever Barkeep opened Dear Friend in downtown Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, in mid-2020 to serve cocktails to the local community. With a simple and unpretentious ambiance, including sophisticated design details that speak to the European café aesthetic, Dear Friend is a relaxed but refined neighborhood bar with friendly staff. There's genuinely something for everyone on the diverse drinks menu, which features a solid selection of originals and updated takes on classics. Visit during lunchtime when cocktails on tap and a limited number of fun daytime pick-me-up options (such as an Espresso Martini on Nitro, a house spritz, and cereal-infused milk punch) pair well with daytime cuisine, and don't skip the happy hour oysters, available every afternoon.
