The old sits happily alongside the new at Errázuriz, where the original 1870 winery is complemented by avant-garde additions. The historic cellars of the traditional homestead were restored over the course of five years, their bare brick archways now a scenic nod to the innovative owner who planted the Aconcagua Valley’s first French grape varieties here. Then there’s the ecologically friendly, spiral-shaped Don Maximiano Icon Winery, which opened in 2010 and uses solar power, gravity-flow technology and geothermal temperature controls. The ‘Don Maximiano Icon Visit’ takes you from the vineyards through to the cellars, with lessons and tastings along the way bringing to life one of Chile’s most iconic red wines.
