Lunar

Shanghai, China

Lunar is a restaurant of mystery, with precisely zero online presence (we're including online maps on this so make sure you note the address). Don't let this deter you from visiting though, as this is the definition of a hidden gem. The kitchen is overseen by Singaporean-Malaysian chef Johnston Teo, whose previous appointments include Odette in Singapore, which was Asia's Best Restaurant on two occasions and holds three Michelin Stars. He masterfully crafts a 10-course menu six nights a week, combining Chinese ingredients and a hint of French technique, plus a choice of fine wine or tea pairings, making for a world-class experience. The setting is no less impressive, the first-floor dining room can be found within a stand-alone villa and comes complete with with a hyper-modern bleached wood and stone interior which somehow still feels warm and welcoming.
