Xin Rong Ji (Taizhou)
Taizhou, China
Cantonese food is the version of Chinese cuisine that the world knows best and while Sichuan and even Xinjiang's regional flavours gain global recognition, the food of the coastal Taizhou area remains largely unrecognised outside China. This fact becomes puzzling if not downright shocking when you realise that a restaurant group hailing from the region holds no less than a dozen Michelin Stars, only outranked by Joël Robuchon, Alain Ducasse and Pierre Gagnaire. The three-star Beijing outpost gains the most attention but here, in the waterside locale of LinHai, you'll find the original Xin Rong Ji restaurant, which has itself become the site of many a gastronomic pilgrimage for guests seeking its famous fish and shellfish straight out of the East China Sea. Don't miss braised Yellow Croaker or crispy Cutlass Fish alongside the group's peerless iteration of Peking duck.
