Contra Corriente

Bogotá, Colombia

With a name like Contra Corriente (which means 'against the current'), it's clear that chef Arnau Barenys Caballero intends to dance to the beat of his own drum. This chic little seafood restaurant is split across two levels, with an array of organic textures on the walls of the warehouse-style space offering welcome warmth in what could be a somewhat spartan environment. Of course, the food remains the true focus. Dishes include a twist on Colobia's classic Choriperro hot dog, but instead of a meat sausage topped with potato chips, Barenys Caballero prepares his own fish chorizo sandwiched in potato brioche topped with greens, Dijonnaise and fried leek; plus a more refined white trout steak cooked over charcoal and served with roasted tomato, warm tomato broth and pickles.
