A cocktail trailblazer in Croatia’s second-largest city, Bar Sistema is a forward-thinking venue that has helped to revolutionise drinking culture in Split. On entering this impressive space, the centrepiece is unquestionably the vast selection of spirits – about 400 bottles in total – displayed on a five-metre-high set of shelves behind the bar. Everything else used to produce the bar’s inventive selection of cocktails is made in-house, and goes into original creations such as The Navigator with gin, distilled mint and sake, or Levity, which blends gin, aquavit and distilled lemongrass with camomile. These signature drinks are elegant and creative in their presentation, and there’s a selection of classic cocktails too, as well as a trio of non-alcoholic options. Beyond that eye-catching back bar, the space is beautifully designed, with rough brickwork contrasting with tasteful design elements and artwork.
