Tiesto's

Cuenca, Ecuador

In a grand, colonial house with high ceilings and brightly coloured tableware, attentive chef Juan Carlos Solano serves hearty, homely dishes using Ecuadorean and Andean ingredients. The à la carte menu offers a wide selection of steaks, chicken and swordfish dishes, each available for either two, three or four people, as well as regional specialties such as locro potato stew. The restaurant is named after the clay pot (tiesto de barro) traditionally used in Andean culture to dry-roast coffee, corn, wheat or barley. The dining room is decorated with hats and other quirky artefacts, making for a fun and friendly atmosphere.
