Les Enfants du Marche
Paris, France
Les Enfants Du Marché is a restaurant where chefs actually go to eat. And not just any chefs, the likes of Alain Ducasse, Yannick Alléno and other starry names have all stopped by. But then Les Enfants isn’t exactly a restaurant, it’s an open kitchen at the back of Paris’ oldest food market, which only makes its fine-dining worthy cuisine all the more impressive. Owner Michael Grosman shares the same rolodex of producers as many of Paris’ top restaurants, so expect top-notch produce brilliantly reinterpreted by Japanese chef Shunta Suzuki. The menu changes nearly daily but focuses on creative pairings of both land and sea; think squid and black pudding or smoked eel and foie gras, married together with punchy flavours such as strong earthy vegetables and homemade vinegars. When a dish is sold out, it’s sold out, so arrive early if you want full pick, or go all in and ask the team about an off-menu tasting menu. The excellent natural wine list holds its own against the bold cuisine and if you try something you like, bottles can be picked up from Grosman’s wine shop just across the street.
