Airelles Contrôle de Versailles, Le Grand Contrôle

Versailles, France

Airelles outdid itself with this majestic opening in 2021, set within the grounds of the magnificent Chateau de Versailles. Built in 1681 by Louis XIV’s architect, Jules Hardouin-Mansart, Le Grand Contrôle once housed the Palace’s Finance Controller. Today its 13 opulent rooms and suites are reserved for the lucky few. Christophe Tollemer’s meticulous restoration of the building has uncovered centuries-worth of luxury. Accommodation is complete with refined fabrics, parquet flooring, 18th century furniture, a butler service, and views over the Orangery Gardens. Beyond the plush accommodation are exclusive experiences befitting the unrivalled location. A stay here not only grants you access to the palace grounds, but also after hours guided tours of the Chateau and Trianon, including the Hall of Mirrors. Further activities range from string quartet performances to flights in light aircraft over the city, period costume fittings, and treatments at the Valmont Spa. Alternatively, guests can mimic Marie Antoinette, shouting “let them eat cake” while indulging in afternoon tea or a feast by Alain Ducasse.
