Weingut Dr. Loosen
Mosel, Germany
- No.16 The World's 50 Best Vineyards 2025
International man of Riesling Dr Ernie Loosen has been advocating for this broadly underestimated grape to great effect since taking over the estate, owned by his family for more than 200 years, in 1998. Visiting his nerve centre in the Mosel Valley, you'll be so stunned by the dramatic hillsides swathed with vines up to 130 years old that the only answer is to get in amongst them, on foot or by bike (including the Bremmer Calmont vineyard, supposedly the world's steepest). Follow up with a bespoke tasting at the riverside winery, where bookings are essential and the welcomes warm, with the surrounding village of Bernkastel providing ample photo opportunities thanks to its half‑timbered houses and cobblestoned streets.
