Travolta

Athens, Greece

An urban and (quite) contemporary take on a seaside taverna. A recent refurb saw kitschy boat-themed gimmicks – nets, floats and the like – replaced with a whitewashed exterior and retro furniture painted distressed white. However, there’s still something cosily nostalgic about this excellent neighbourhood spot, which always hums with families and friends reliving old memories while scooping up velvety taramasalata with homemade sourdough. Menus are exclusively at the whim of the restaurant’s own pair of day boats, which set off into the Aegean in the early hours and deliver their catch in time for lunch service. Expect tasty plates such as seafood spaghetti, carpaccio, grilled and pan-fried fillets and fishy versions of traditional meat dishes. Their cuttlefish and niot graviera cheese version of spetsofai (rustic saUSge stew) is a sophisticated, saline take on a rustic favourite.
