Travolta

Athens, Greece

An urban, contemporary take on a seaside taverna. Following a thoughtful refurb, this longstanding favourite ditched its kitschy boat‑themed gimmicks – nets, floats and the like – in favour of a whitewashed exterior and retro furniture painted in distressed white. However, there's still something cosily nostalgic about this neighbourhood spot, which hums with families and friends in full flow while they scoop velvety taramasalata onto homemade sourdough. Menus are at the mercy of the restaurant's very own day boats, which set off into the Aegean in the early hours and deliver their catch in time for lunch service. Expect tasty plates such as seafood spaghetti, carpaccio, grilled and pan‑fried fillets, and fish‑forward versions of traditional meat dishes. The cuttlefish and Niot graviera version of spetsofai (rustic sausage stew) is a sophisticated, saline take on a rustic favourite. The wine list mirrors the same thoughtful approach, spotlighting local bottles chosen with intent.
