Casa Palopó is worthy of its accolade as Guatemala’s one and only Relais & Châteaux hotel, offering experiential stays that immerse guests in the country's rich culture and craftsmanship. Formerly a private home, the hotel’s 15 rooms are adorned in handwoven textiles – from aztec-style rugs to cosy throws – embroidered upholstery, and locally sourced artworks. The three-suite standalone villa has more of the same, but with added exclusivity and an infinity pool crafted from the very volcanic stone within view. Guests are invited to take part in activities ranging from painting workshops and tortilla masterclasses, to sacred Mayan traditions including shaman ceremonies and sound healing. Dining venues give guests an additional taste of the region, with family-style meals at the open-fire Kinnik restaurant, and more refined dishes made from locally sourced ingredients at Palopó 6.8.
