The Johri
Jaipur, India
Hip hoteliers Siddharth Kasliwal and Abhishek Honawar opened The Johri in 2020, in the heart of one of Jaipur’s oldest markets, the Johri (jewellery) Bazaar. Just like its location, the 19th-century haveli-turned-boutique hotel is layered with intriguing colours, textures and contrasts. New York-based designer Naina Shah is behind the stand-out-from-the-crowd interiors, which juxtapose Rajasthani design, antiques and textiles with flair. Each of the five spacious suites is a gem in its own right, drawing on different jewels for its unique aesthetic – and so you have the Manek (ruby) in shades of dusty pink; the Neelam (sapphire), which comes in the palest of blue complete with a cushioned hanging loveseat and black-and-white striped columns; and the top-floor Moti (pearl) with its dressing room, living room and private verandah. The suites overlook a quiet inner courtyard, off which you’ll also find cool, calm nooks and crannies to escape the heat of the day. Take afternoon chai beneath the bright Rousseau-like murals in the Pukhraj Lounge; while the pretty-as-a-picture restaurant serves organic, vegetarian Indian fare including chaat, biryani and an incredible selection of breads.
