Ranthambhore National Park, in Sawai Madhopur in the southeastern part of Rajasthan, is renowned for its Bengal tiger population, and Suján Sher Bagh is the ideal base from which to try and track these majestic beasts. The safari camp is set on the fringe of the wildlife-rich nature reserve, about 15 minutes’ drive away, with a dozen tented suites that perfectly encapsulate the timeless glamour of safari. The netted four-poster beds take centre stage and capacious bathrooms come with brass tubs and open stone showers; canvas and glass walls open onto a private verandah with front-row seats to the jungle below. The expert, highly-trained guides and trackers, who know the national park like the back of their hand, will take you out to tiger-spot – look for the jackals, mongeese, sloth bears and leopards that also roam the forest.
