The Second House
Goa, India
Tucked away in Saligao, amid the paddy fields of northern Goa, you’ll find The Second House, a sprawling Indo-Porto bungalow-turned-restaurant and bar. Architect Ayaz Basrai has made a feature of its faded charm, creating a space that’s warmly inviting, like going round to a friend’s house for dinner. There’s a wraparound porch, or dine in one of the many rooms, perhaps the glasshouse or on the mezzanine. Embrace the eclecticism; founder Dishant Pritamani envisioned The Second House as a place to eat, yes, but also as a cultural hub where immersive AI art projections flicker on the walls and contemporary installations spring up from nowhere. Don’t let the quirks detract from chef Jyoti Singh’s menu. Small plates and sharing platters, the likes of wasabi-infused salmon toast and kimchi cutlets, as well as pizzas and smash burgers, bridge the new with the familiar, taking Goan ingredients and weaving them through with techniques pulled from Korea, Europe, Egypt and Indonesia.
