Borgo Santo Pietro

Chiusdino, Italy

The joy of abbondanza (or abundant luxury) is made manifest at this outstanding Tuscan estate. Boutique by mantra, capacious by nature, it a dreamy balance. Pitched amid 200-acre grounds – flowing between wild nature, exquisite formal gardens and a generous orto – the once-derelict site and its flagship 800-year-old villa have been lovingly restored to dazzling effect by Danish owners Jeanette and Claus Thottrup. Conceived as a family home, it’s since become one of the regions most beautiful boltholes, a nurturing sanctum of elegance. In a region of abundance, perhaps one of the biggest draws for the epicurious is Saporium, one of two lauded in-house restaurants. Here, chef Ariel Hagen celebrates foraged fare and the estate’s produce in an inventive degustation of modern Tuscan excellence, backed by boutique bins from the house cellar. The same bounty of ingredients is harnessed within the spa, too. Rich interiors hone the quiet grandeur of the past; murals and heritage tones are emblematic, with homely furnishings and modern creature comforts ever-present. Some suites feature their own walled garden and pool, though there’s a larger pool on site too. Borgo Santo Pietro excels in organising activities that immerse you in the very essence of Tuscany’s landscape, so it’s worth lingering longer to soak it all in.
