La Subida Sirk

Found in the Italian commune of Cormons, just under 50km northwest of Trieste, La Subida Sirk is a homely spot run by the Sirk family. There are two restaurants: Trattoria al Cacciatore, which boasts a Michelin star for those with an appetite for fine dining, and Osteria La Subida, which is a more casual offering for everyday eats. If you’ve got stars in your eyes, the former won’t disappoint with white-clothed tables set against a backdrop of pale wood and worn tiles. Under the guidance of owners Josko and Loredana, chef Alessandro Gavagna is serving up suitably sophisticated Friuli plates, whether frogs’ legs, wild game or river fish, amongst other gastronomic delights. The veal shank is a particular favourite, carved and served tableside, old-school style. The locally focused wine list is also a winner.
