Latteria di San Marco

Milan, Italy

Stumble into this tiny former creamery and you’ll feel as if you’ve arrived in a nonna’s private home. Chef Arturo and Maria Maggi have owned the place since 1965 and the interiors have barely changed, unlike the menus, which are different every day to reflect the seasons. Vegetables sourced from a garden just outside the city are the focus. Think cold vegetable soup and testaroli (triangular-shaped pasta) with zucchini, eggplant, and salted ricotta. There are just eight tables and they don’t accept reservations, so be prepared to wait – and don’t forget to bring cash.
