Don Alfonso 1890

Naples, Italy

Housed in a Neapolitan palace with wine (more than 25,000 bottles) and hams aged in tunnels dating back to the 15th century, this restaurant oozes character. One of the pioneers of farm-to-table cuisine, this family affair sees Livia Laccarino and her son Mario in the dining room, with other son Ernesto in the kitchen as head chef and father Alfonso tending the 17-hectare vegetable garden. Menus are based around the Amalfi Coast’s glorious produce. Red mullet, fluffy gnocchi and capers sits alongside guinea fowl with saffron cream, while citrus-infused profiterole is served in a hollowed-out lemon.
