Cinquanta-Spirito Italiano

Pagani, Italy

Taking its design cues from the 1950s heyday of Italian bar culture, this sleek spot founded by Alfonso Califano and Natale Palmieri puts customer connection first. You’re just as welcome to wander in, order an espresso (made with single-origin beans, of course) and enjoy a chitchat with the staff as you are to arrive with friends and sink a few negronis or spritzes. It’s worth turning eyes to the speciality drinks menu, which changes on a monthly basis and turns out forgotten classics such as the Firecracker (pisco, mezcal, pepper, pineapple) or Stinger (cognac and mint). There’s wackier stuff available too, should you be seeking it: for example, a PB&J with peanut butter and blackberry jam redistilled vodka. Or a Butter & Bitter, featuring rum fat-washed with hazelnut and sesame butter.
