Villa Igiea
Palermo, Italy
Villa Igiea began in 1900 as a neo-Gothic villa for retired British admiral Cecil Domville. Later, Ignazio Florio of the renowned Florio family acquired it, transformed it into a luxury hotel, and named it after his daughter, Igiea. It was also Florio that infused the villa with its enduring Art Nouveau style, best seen in the restaurant – once a Louis XVI hall where the Florio family entertained high society. Now helmed by chef Fulvio Pierangelini, best known for the celebrated Gambero Rosso in Tuscany, the restaurant offers a Sicilian-inspired menu featuring produce from the hotel’s own gardens. This concept is mirrored in the signature Irene Forte spa, where oils and scrubs inspired by traditional remedies have been bottled using Sicilian botanicals. The one thing not to miss is a drink at the bar: Sophia Loren, Harrison Ford and Grace Kelly are just some of the celebrity icons that have sipped there.
