Caruso
Ravello, Italy
Caruso, A Belmond Hotel, is the kind of place people dream of staying at. An exclusive cliffside haven set loftily above the sea, it takes pride of place in Ravello, on Italy’s illustrious Amalfi Coast, just as it has since the 11th century. The original ivy-laced building became a hotel in the late 1800s, and in the 1900s the likes of Greta Garbo, Jackie Kennedy, Virginia Woolf and Humphrey Bogart flocked to check in. Flanked by lemon and olive groves, to step within is akin to browsing the glossy pages of World of Interiors. Careful restoration – guided by archaeologists and art historians – sees airy bedrooms awash with carefully chosen antiques, four-posters and masterful art make the most of the Bay of Salerno views. Then there’s the extensive marble, valuted ceilings, frescos, artistic tile work and chandeliers aplenty. A picture-perfect stomping ground for chic lovers of luxury, rambling gardens lead to what is perhaps the world’s most knockout infinity pool. A spa, two fantastic restaurants and a delightful bar are found within the property. Safeguarding such excellence is a team of dedicated staff, so memorable stays are a given. It’s worth noting the the hotel closes during the winter months, reopening again in early March.
