Il Borro
San Giustino Valdarno, Italy
It’s near-impossible to believe that Il Borro's origins can be traced back to 1254, when the medieval hamlet's castle appeared in the first of many sales, changing hands between Milanese noblemen to counts and princes. It’s now owned by the family of fashion royalty Salvatore Ferragamo, who bought the former village with the intention of creating a hospitality haven in the heart of Tuscany. Buildings dotted around the area have been transformed into 38 suites, each composed of rustic, exposed beams, charming water colours, flickering fireplaces and hand-picked antiques. Staying here feels like village life, where guests can wander out for dinner at Il Borro’s three local restaurants, all supplied by the estate’s thriving organic farm, and for longer stays, there are private villas and farmhouse accommodations, as well as two tennis courts, a golf course, a football field and sprawling vineyards.
