Reminiscent of an opulent bar aboard a luxury cruise ship, Hiroshima’s Top Note is sumptuously appointed. Head down the stairs to find comfortable seats along the long bar that spans the length of this narrow space. Guests can pull up a chair here, or make themselves comfortable at one of the table seats or private rooms, to enjoy one of the bar’s signature cocktails, all twists on familiar classics. This Horikawacho site is where everything started, but there are now two additional Top Notes in Hiroshima, starting with the Top Note Annex, a modern cocktail bar found within a former Japanese home, complete with views onto a courtyard. The third, in Kamiyacho, is labyrinthine, with a darker colour scheme than the original, but an equally capable cocktail list of classic twists.
