Fusing local Ryukyu culture with that of Latin America, El Lequio celebrates Okinawa’s unique heritage. At the bar, named for the word used by seafarers from Portugal and Spain to refer to the Ryukyu Kingdom, you’ll find a unique mix of influences, starting with the decor that merges these two aesthetics. Cocktails are divided into two sections, starting with Ryukyu-inspired, with classic twists informed by local flavours, such as the Yanbaru Gin & Tonic with local shiiquasa leaf, cashew fruit and Okinawan pepper. The Nikkei-Latino section, taking influence from both Latin America and modern-day Okinawa, includes drinks such as the Blew Out Daiquiri, with rum, lime, CBD and local liqueur Kokuto de Lequio. The team behind the bar, SG Group, operates a number of other venues including speakeasy Speak Low and all-day venue Sober Company, both in Shanghai, as well as the highly-acclaimed The SG Club in Tokyo.
