Giraffe Manor
Nairobi, Kenya
It’s not every day that your breakfast is interrupted by a giraffe stretching its long neck through the window. At Giraffe Manor, such surreal moments are a regular occurrence. Set in Nairobi’s Langata suburb, the hotel's guests share the lush green grounds with a herd of wild giraffes. It’s not quite the safari lodge you might expect, instead resembling a stately English manor, draped in lush ivy. The 1930s building houses six rooms, each with four-poster beds and plush furnishings, while another six occupy a newer garden building whose style reflects that of the original house. Fret not, the giraffes are drawn to both properties, with picture windows large enough for the long-necked mammals to hunt down some treats. Stays are on an all-inclusive full-board basis, and many guests use it as their first stop on a wider wildlife itinerary with The Safari Collection. Onsite activities, however, include a wellness centre open to the forest elements, while a 4x4 vehicle can be pre-booked for game drives in Nairobi National Park. Conservation efforts include a donation from each guest’s stay to the Afew Giraffe Centre just opposite.
