Amantaka

Luang Prabang, Laos

At the foot of the sacred Mount Phousi lies Aman’s sole hotel in Laos. Set in garden-like grounds within the Unesco-protected town of Luang Prabang, Amantaka counts more than 30 temples and the Mekong river as neighbours. As such, there’s a huge focus on the region’s spiritual heritage, community and terroir – whether through its colonial-style design, seasonal produce or cultural activities. Bathed in natural light, the hotel’s 24 suites feature four-poster beds beneath lofty wooden ceilings, along with rattan touches, white-washed walls and mahogany accents. Many suites extend into the great outdoors with private pools, terraces and wraparound verandas. With Luang Prabang regarded as the heartland of Buddhism, Amantaka educates guests on the religion’s customs and principles through its very own learning centre, which offers daily teachings. Outside of the hotel walls, guests can further immerse themselves in local culture, crossing paths with monks accepting alms or by jumping in a tuk tuk to nearby temples. Laotian cuisine is another means of connection. Amantaka’s farm supplies kitchens with seasonal produce, while twice-daily cooking classes begin with a trip to the morning market to discover the region's rich output.
