Hidden within a former warehouse at George Town's Hin Bus Depot, Au Jardin (meaning 'in the garden' in French) reveals a verdant sanctuary with elegant French-leaning plates. This intimate 18-seat, fine-dining establishment balances edenic splendour with minimalist decor. The white tablecloths, softly lit interiors, and lush greenery frame an experience far removed from Penang's bustling street-food scene. The kitchen sources an impressive 85 per cent of its ingredients directly from Malaysian farmers, featuring seasonal produce in tasting menus changing monthly. Signature dishes sing with the terroir-focused spirit of Provence and prove the creativity of the kitchen: hay-aged duck is smoked tableside, plump river prawns are paired with roe emulsion and cauliflower pickle, and lacto-fermented bread comes with tomato chutney butter and curry leaf oil.
