Playa Viva
Juluchuca, Mexico
Playa Viva (which translates as ‘living beach’) is a socially conscious eco resort that promises guests all the luxury but none of the guilt with an all-inclusive experience that’s immersed in nature. Set on the pristine shores of Guerrero on Mexico’s Pacific Coast, near the village of Juluchuca, the 200-acre jungle-carpeted property started life in 2009 as a handful of rooms. The beachside hotel was – and continues to be – driven by its core values including promoting biodiversity and creating a meaningful community. Indeed, it has the highest score of any B-corp certified hotel to date. There are now 20 rooms and suites, ranging from award-winning treehouses to bungalow-style casitas and studios, built using locally harvested and sustainable materials. Retractable walls accentuate the indoor-outdoor vibe. Farm-to-table ‘healthy Mexican’ meals are eaten in the elevated dining room where guests swap stories about that day’s turtle release / surfing / hiking / fishing adventures. For those who prefer a little pampering, a massage in the beachside palapa or an early morning outdoor yoga session led by your personal holistic host is the ultimate at-one-with-the-earth indulgence.
