This hotel is a love letter to Kathmandu’s architectural heritage and the Newari civilisation, promising museum-like stays with a focus on centuries-old craftsmanship. Traditional Newari houses encircle a peaceful foliage-strewn courtyard, featuring intricately carved woodwork that dates back as far as the 13th century – collected by the late founder Dwarika Das Shrestha. Rooms are equally decorative, displaying terracotta tiled floors, exposed brickwork and handwoven textiles adorned with Newari design motifs. The Dwarika's goes beyond simply celebrating craftsmanship in its design, also playing a part in the survival of ancient crafts at its workshop, which restores furnishings and hosts woodcarving sessions for guests. Ornate interiors continue at the Nepalese restaurant, Krishnarpan, where tasting menus range from six to 22 courses. Further activities include daily Hindu prayer rituals and the opportunity to receive blessings from the idols – a fitting introduction to a city brimming with temples.
