James Stapley presents contemporary Kiwi cuisine with Italian accents in a simple, stone-hewn dining room overlooking a creek in beautiful Wanaka. Family style sharing menus combine punchy flavours with locally sourced seasonal ingredients, some grown on site. Beef tartare is served with crispy shallots and miso mayo, while half-chicken is complemented by the umami of garlic and sweet and sour flavours of plums. It's busy (no advance bookings except for large parties) but worth the wait, particularly when bolstered with a local craft brew in front of the open fire.
