La Calul Alb
Within Timișoara’s historic heart lies La Calul Alb. The 1746 building has seen numerous incarnations, including stints as a grocer’s, a tack shop, tailors and solicitors. Today, its gutsy menu pinpoints the cuisine of the Banat (which spans the likes of Serbia and Hungary) as its inspiration. Haute cuisine this is not: but it’s the kind of food you really want to eat, done really well. Think homemade soups and pasta dishes, charcuterie and josper-flamed beef marrow, steak and other choice cuts.
