Tanda Tula
Greater Kruger National Park, South Africa
Compared to the big name safari brands that boast lodges across Africa, Tanda Tula has managed to stay relatively under the radar, despite launching all the way back in 1978. The Kruger Park camp operates with the utmost respect for heritage and nature without sacrificing on luxury: energy efficient lodges are solar powered with water wise systems, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy an African oil massage or dip in the infinity pool. The nine canvas suites overlook the Nhlaralumi river and come with glass sliding doors to maximise views. Furnishings are inspired by nature – emerald sofas take their colour from silver cluster leaf trees; purple bedding from a purple pod cluster leaf – whilst patterned textiles pay homage to traditional designs from South Africa’s Tsonga people. Aside from daily game drives and safari walks, there’s also tracking, bird watching and stargazing on offer, or the intriguing Sound Safari experience, which allows guests to listen in to the call, or rather, conversations of the wild using specialist sound gear.
